In mid-summer of 2015, Clayton and Brennah reconnected at a church camp after a few years of knowing of one another through the homeschooling community. It was then that they had both realized they liked each other as civil human beings. After a few months of getting to know each other during the challenging season of Clayton's fundraising for the World Race, they finally came to terms that they would like to court one another... And that Friday, September 4, 2015, Clayton left for 9 months to do international missions. During this time, Brennah and Clayton stayed connected through emails, questionnaires, FaceTime, and iMessage. It was a difficult season, but perfect in every way for this specific couple. Soon, Brennah answered her call to a missions school that would keep them apart another 3 months, rounding off their "long-distance relationship" close to a full year. In August 2016, Brennah graduated her missions school and Clayton returned from the mission field and his cross-country excursion with one of his best friends. They continued to learn and grow together on the same soil, attending college, and working in the ministry, May of 2017, Brennah left for Japan for three months to be with her brother and sister-in-law. When she returned home that September, Clayton said, "We will be engaged or married by this time next year". On July 23 of 2018, after their first missions trip together to Ecuador, Clayton proposed to Brennah when they got home. He took her to their first-date spot which was actually a Mellow Mushroom Pizza on top of the Aloft hotel balcony. He sang their first slow-dance song to her with lyrics close to his heart. With this song, he slipped into a universal position of proposition and asked Brennah to marry him. She was so excited, she forgot to say yes. Then he asked her again just to make sure. They sat there, read Proverbs 31 and decided this is what they'll do the rest of their lives.
