The bell rings and I walk into my homeroom for the first time. Mrs. Williams has the seats arranged in alphabetical order. I find my seat near the back corner of the classroom and sat next to this guy named Clayton who I'd never seen before, even though there aren't very many kids behind me in the alphabet. After a few days I learned that was because he moved to Fallston from Georgia just a couple years before. I guess that also explains why he brings a half gallon of sweet tea to school every morning and why he's always talking about college football. Sure, I think he's cute, but I'm heading off to college next fall. There's no point in making a move. Fast forward a few months. We still don't interact much outside of the class we share, but we're not strangers anymore. I convince him to drive me home after school every day when I don't have a car. I let him copy my homework (if I've done my own, that is). If I'm lucky, he might even let me steal his Georgia Bulldogs hoodie for the day. Now prom is approaching. I definitely have a crush on Clayton, but now I KNOW I'm heading off 3+ hours away to college in the fall. Ugh. He's the best prospect I have for a prom date. I guess I'll ask him. If we're still a thing by the end of the summer, I can just end it before I leave for college, right? ....maybe not.
