Question

When is the RSVP deadline?

Answer

We respectfully request all RSVPs by January 15th

Question

Is San Miguel de Allende safe?

Answer

Yes! It has actually been named the "World's Best City" by Travel & Leisure multiple times and is one of the safest cities in Mexico. Locals, including the 10% of ex-pat Americans who live there permanently, are very friendly and welcoming to tourists. San Miguel is a very safe city; however, it's always important to use common sense when you are traveling anywhere, whether in the US or internationally.

Question

WhatsApp

Answer

Just a reminder if you didn't catch it on the travel page to download WhatsApp on your phone. It is an international messaging app (similar to texting) and a great way to communicate with everyone while you are in Mexico and not be charged international travel fees by your cellular carrier. All of the car companies, hotels and airbnbs will use this app to communicate with you about your upcoming stay and travel plans. It's extremely helpful and straightforward to use! Start to familiarize yourself with it now if it's new to you!

Question

Do I need a Rental Car?

Answer

We do not recommend renting a car. The narrow and hilly cobblestone streets are a large part of San Miguel's charm, and it would be very difficult to drive there and parking is very limited. Most things in the city are a 5-10 minute walk away. The city is extremely walk-able but please pack comfortable shoes to better navigate the cobblestone streets!

Question

How long should I stay?

Answer

We know that time away from home and work is precious so we recommended making the most of your trip and staying as long as you can to truly soak in your time in this magical city. Feel free to arrive in town early or stay later to relax and truly take in all that San Miguel has to offer. Be sure to check out our "Things to Do" page for highlights on activities that we have loved when we visit SMA. Wedding events will take place Friday through Sunday. While Clay and Sarah will arrive in town Thursday mid-day and take off for another part of Mexico early Tuesday, many guests will be staying in SMA for several days after the wedding festivities have come to an end.

Question

What is the weather like?

Answer

March in SMA brings beautifully warm days (mid/high 70's with low humidity) and chilly nights with temperatures dropping into the 50's. Since the town is nestled in the Sierra Central mountains, expect warm days and cool nights. There is not a beach in this colonial town, but there are pools in some casas and hotels as well as breathtaking Cenotes and Hot Springs just outside of the city to enjoy, so bring your bathing suit!

Question

Can I drink the water?

Answer

As with other Mexico destinations, avoid tap water unless it has been filtered. You can check with your hotel or rental house to ensure that your tap water is filtered. Ice and water served at most restaurants are typically purified but when it doubt, order bottled water! Bottled water is widely available and short term visitors are advised to use it to brush their teeth, too. *Don't forget to drink plenty of water* San Miguel is high in elevation so it's important to stay hydrated!

Question

What is the currency in Mexico?

Answer

The currency is the Mexican Peso. Please note that Mexican pesos and USD use the same $ symbol, so always clarify currency. There are ATM machines in and around the main-square (El Jardin) in San Miguel. Many hotels and restaurants do take credit cards and US dollars, but many smaller shops may not be set up to. It is best to carry pesos.

Question

What is the elevation of San Miguel?

Answer

SMA sits just over 6,000 ft above sea level. Because of its moderately high altitude and dry climate you will want to ensure that you hydrate accordingly. Drink a lot of water in the days leading up to the wedding so you can leave it all on the dance floor!
