Clay and I lived 605 miles and 10 hours apart. Neither one of us had any idea how connected we were about to become after our first conversation with each other. Good ol' Doug Olsen was the mutual factor that brought us together. After a few months of Doug hassling both of us to reach out another, one like on Facebook finally made the move. On March 1st of 2017 Clay and I began speaking over the phone and face time. When I say everyday... I am not exaggerating. I had an opening at work come up and we decided well a short trip won't hurt. My friends and family thought I was a nut case driving 10 hours to meet a guy I've only been talking to on the phone for a month or two. But to Clay and I, it felt like we'd been talking to someone we've known all our lives. That short weekend trip turned into a week long trip and then turned into a 10 day long trip.... One trip led to many future trips back and forth from Georgia to Virginia and Virginia to Georgia. Less than 6 months into us knowing each other, we decided to make the trips non-existent by making one final trip for me to move up to Virginia. Crazy I know but we both felt like it was right and right we were. All it takes is one moment or one like on Facebook to change your life. Here's to forever baby it's going to be extraordinary!
Over the 2018 labor day weekend, Megan and I decided to make a trip to Myrtle Beach for a mini vacation and for a surprise visit to see my father. Little did she know this trip was going to be one for the books. I immediately informed my family and hers that this was going to be the weekend of our proposal. Everyone in the family knew and somehow managed to keep it a secret from Megan. After a long afternoon of golfing and a BBQ, I knew instantly that we were going to be late to our dinner reservations (that she had not idea about). She was tired, I was tired, but I had PLANS. So I decided to call and reschedule our reservation for a late dinner instead. Which was actually the best thing that could have happened. They offered a wide variety of options for proposal dinners. They worked with me to make our night as special as it could be. After our much needed naps, I had to convince Megan to dress up because we were going to a fancy restaurant. Anyone who knows Megan, knows how difficult this was to convince her without giving it away. We finally made it to our 8:00 reservation at Thoroughbreds Chophouse. They greeted us and brought us to our reserved seats. At this moment I knew I had to sneak away to give the ring to the waiter. I told her I needed to use the restroom and I was able to hand the ring off to the hostess. She made everything work out as planned. We ordered drinks, food and it was delicious. My heart was pounding, I'm hoping this works out the way I planned. I then ask if she would like dessert. SHE SAID NO!.... MY PLAN IS FAILING! I said, "I love cheese cake though", which brought on the most expensive dessert that I have ever bought, with her beautiful ring sitting on top. I got down on one knee, and asked Megan, Will you marry me? With lots of tears in her eyes she said, YES!
