How We Met

June 11th 2022

Clay and I met the good ol’ fashioned way—at a bar called Viewhouse in downtown Denver. Clay was out celebrating his flag football team’s championship win that morning, sporting long hair and a black eye from the game. I was out with my friend Mackena, who had dragged me out that night to watch the UFC fights. Now, I’m forever grateful to Mackena for convincing me to go out and meet my future husband. We love you, Mackena!

The Proposal

July 14th 2024

Clay planned the perfect proposal. My family was in town to celebrate my baptism, my sister’s baptism, and my dad’s birthday. After an incredible morning getting baptized at church in front of family and friends, we went home to celebrate the day and my dad’s birthday. When we arrived, I was greeted by a party planner, whom I thought was there to decorate the house for my dad’s birthday. I went upstairs to change out of my wet baptism clothes and asked my sister, “Did Clay do too much with the decorations and food?” Mind you, there were only eight of us, yet there appeared to be enough food to feed fifty. I was also confused by the abundance of flowers for what was supposed to be my dad’s birthday celebration. Somehow, Taylor convinced me to dress up a little so we could take more pictures. I tried on a few dresses and, miraculously, ended up wearing a white one. Clay was lingering around upstairs, which I thought was odd, as I expected him to be downstairs breaking in the new cornhole boards with my dad. We headed downstairs, and as I walked towards the kitchen, I discovered our extra surprise guests. Friends from all over Denver packed our kitchen. As I continued to scan the room, I spotted Clay’s mom and dad, and that’s when I knew—Clay was proposing. We all went to the backyard to “do a toast for my dad’s birthday.” Clay got down on one knee and asked, “Haley, will you marry me?” And surprise… I SAID YES!!! We then celebrated with all our friends and family at the incredible engagement party Clay had planned. There was a bar serving my favorite cucumber jalapeño margarita, which I had discovered in Cabo, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop—my favorite go-to DoorDash restaurant—and Rita’s Ice Cream for dessert. Truly, all my favorite things!
