Clay was a freshman at West Georgia Tech while Emily was still a senior in high school taking college classes. They both ended up in Psych 1001 and sat on complete opposite sides of the classroom. They kept randomly showing up in each other’s day-to-day life. Parking next to each other, ending up at the gym at the same time, just constantly running into one another. Finally, Clay asked Emily out to see the most romantic movie of all time… Encanto. Both of them were so nervous they didn’t get any snacks and sat straight up in the reclining theater seats. From that day on, they were basically inseparable spending the whole Christmas break looking at Christmas lights, going to the gym together, and trying (but mostly failing) at ice skating. Then, on January 2nd, 2022, Clay finally asked Emily to be his girlfriend.
Emily was on her yearly family vacation in Pensacola, Florida. Clay had to work so he stayed home, or so Emily thought. On Sunday, the Fiscus family arrived, and on Tuesday night, they were set to take a family photo on the beach. Emily got all ready and started walking down to the beach, completely unaware that Clay had secretly driven all the way from Newnan, Georgia, to Pensacola to surprise her… and propose. He hid in the garage while Emily was getting ready, then slipped over to the beach ahead of everyone else. As Emily walked up, she spotted him and said, “Wow, that guy looks like Clay,” only for him to turn around and it really was Clay. He asked Emily to marry him, and the rest of their vacation was spent celebrating together.
