Who would have imagined that our story would begin in high school? What started as a simple friendship, helping each other through physics class, quickly became so much more. Soon, we were searching for each other in the hallways and quietly planning to be at Wednesday night youth group at White’s Chapel when we knew the other would be there. As senior year approached and time felt like it was slipping away, we knew we didn’t want to miss our chance, so we went on our first date. It was the sweetest early fall evening at Bicentennial Park in Southlake, where we started with a casual game of baseball. Of course, our competitive sides took over, and we ended up playing longer than expected, laughing more than we ever thought possible. On October 17, 2020, we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend, and that one decision brought more joy into our lives than we could have ever imagined. Soon after, it became routine for Clay to walk me to class. Our teachers even jokingly called Clay “my escort,” since he would show up before class ended just to walk me to my next one. Those few extra minutes together quickly became some of our favorite parts of the day. We continued our journey together at the University of Oklahoma, where our love only grew deeper. Every Friday night, we played basketball, with the loser treating the other to dinner, almost always at Chuy’s. Those nights were full of laughter, fun, and little traditions that became some of our most cherished memories. Falling in love so young meant that we didn’t just grow closer; we grew up together. Through every season, we had the chance to become the best versions of ourselves, not only for who we are individually, but for each other. Then, on February 28, five years later, we returned to that very park where it all began. Behind it, a beautiful gazebo awaited, and there, surrounded by the memories of our first date, Clay got down on one knee and asked us to spend forever together. It was everything we could have dreamed of and more. We are so incredibly grateful for the love we share and the life we’ve built together.
