Travel + Accommodations

Travel Note

Travel

We recommend booking your travel plans at least 6 months in advance. International flights will have a layover at major airports (ORD, JFK, PHL, CLT, BOS, EWR) before arriving to Greece. There are 2 international airports that you can travel into, Athens or Mykonos. You will also need to book an additional flight or ferry from Athens/Mykonos to the island. We have listed some options for this below. Expect travel to cost $1000 per person and take 20 hours in total to get to the island.

Travel Note

Ferry

There is a ferry that runs from Athens to Paros multiple times a day. The fastest ferry will take around 2-3 hours and costs €40-80/person. PROS: beautiful scenery, about 8 ferry departures daily, cheapest option CONS: sometimes delayed due to weather, approximately 1 hour from the airport to the ferry port (use Metro Line 1, bus, or a taxi to get there), can be VERY windy and makes some travelers sea sick Book your ferry through FerryHopper.

Travel Note

Flight

There are direct flights from Athens to Paros for around €100-180/person. The flight takes about 25-45 minutes. PROS: faster travel, 10 flights per day CONS: expensive, small airplane so books fast, delays due to weather You should book your flights in February or March due to high demands. Book your flights through Olympic or Sky Express.

Bride + Groom travel plans

We will be flying from Columbus to Athens the weekend before the wedding (September 3rd) and staying a few days in Athens. We recommend all guests do this if they are able to spend some extra time in the area to break up travel! Another great option is to fly to Mykonos and spend the weekend there. Flights are currently ~$800. We will be taking the ferry from Athens to Paros on Monday, September 7th and spending the rest of the week on the island.

Accommodations

We will be staying at Villa Aethra for 5 nights (Monday 9/7- Saturday 9/12). The Villa is located in Sotires, a small city on the southwest side of the island. The Villa is a short drive away from Parikia. We plan to have a bus that will be coming around the island to drop off all of our guests after the wedding; however, transportation to the wedding venue will not be provided. Listed below are our recommendations for stay: - Sotires: a quiet city on the southwest part of the island. It is known for its whitewashed buildings, narrow streets, and proximity to beautiful beaches. PROS: close to the venue and a variety of beaches, lots of options for places to stay, sunset views, authentic greek atmosphere CONS: not many things to do, limited restaurant options - Parikia: capitol of the island and where you will be traveling into if you take the ferry. It is known for being laid back and offering a traditional Greek experience. PROS: affordable options, historical sites, close to ferry port, variety of restaurants/shops and things to do CONS: slow night life, short drive to the venue - Naousa: located on the northern part of the island, Naousa is one of the most trending cities in all of Greece. PROS: lots of shopping and restaurants, amazing views, lively nightlife, picturesque CONS: 20 minute drive from ferry port and 25 minutes from airport, 25 minutes from the Villa, can be more expensive
