Our ceremony will be an interfaith celebration, blending Jewish and Catholic traditions that are meaningful to both of us. During the ceremony Kippah (or yarmulke): A small head covering worn in Jewish tradition by men as a sign of respect and humility, reminding the wearer of the presence of something greater than themselves. These are optional to wear during the ceremony. The Chuppah: The ceremony happens under a chuppah (a canopy). Represents the couple’s new home together. Often open on all sides to symbolize welcoming community. The Bedekin: Is a Jewish tradition in which the groom veils the bride before or during the ceremony, affirming her identity and the intention to marry her for who she truly is. Circling: The bride circles the groom under the chuppah 7 times. Symbolizing creating a new “circle” of family and protection. 7 Blessings (Sheva Brachot): You may hear seven blessings recited (sometimes in Hebrew + English). Focused on love, partnership, joy, and community. Often read by friends/family. Breaking the Glass: At the end of the ceremony, the groom breaks a glass. Represents remembering life’s fragility even in joy. As soon as the glass breaks, everyone yells: “Mazel Tov!” After the ceremony Horah dancing: The horah is a high-energy circle dance where the couple gets lifted on chairs, everyone piles in, and for 15 chaotic minutes it’s pure, joyful madness!
