Claudia and Cody first met in San Antonio, Texas, a little over three years ago. At the time, Claudia was a third-year grad student searching for the motivation to finish her Ph.D., and Cody was working as an intelligence analyst for the U.S. Coast Guard. As fate would have it, they lived in the same apartment complex — and both loved taking their dogs to the community dog park. That dog park is where Willow met Subie (and, consequentially, where Claudia met Cody). After a few dates and some “coincidental” run-ins at the park, they quickly became inseparable. Together, they like to think of themselves as amateur food critics, outdoor adventurers, and expert pet-hair removers. When the big day came for Claudia to defend her thesis, Cody sat proudly in the audience — and may have shed a tear or two. With that chapter closed, they decided to take the next step in their journey and relocate to Jupiter, Florida, to grow their careers. Claudia became a postdoctoral fellow at Scripps, and Cody traded his desk job for life on the water as a boat captain. After a few years of learning how to “adult” together, they realized there was no one else they’d rather spend a day at the dog park with. So, they decided to make it official and become dog-park buddies for life.
