Travel Note

Getting there from NYC

Driving up is about a 2 and a half to 3 hour drive, depending on traffic or where you are coming from in the city. The best option, if you plan to rent a car, is to take a Metro-North train from Grand Central Station to North White Plains station (40 min train ride) and there is a Hertz Rental Car place (66 Haarlem Ave, White Plains, NY 10603) right across from the station where you can reserve a car. The rates are reasonable (cheaper than renting a car in the city) and you will avoid city traffic. The drive then from North White Plains to Lenox is about 2 hours. The final stop on the Metro North Harlem Line train from Grand Central (Wassaic) is about an hour from the house. We might be able to arrange a ride to/from this station at one time on Saturday (late morning) and Sunday (afternoon). Please get in touch with us if this is the best option for you and we will try to make it work.

Airbnb and HomeAway

Airbnb: Given that Lenox is a very popular summer vacation spot and hosts Tanglewood Music Festival, accommodations in the town are not cheap and fill quickly. According to Airbnb, 85% of available rentals for June in the area have already been booked! If you plan to use Airbnb, please make sure to book something in the next couple weeks! HomeAway: In addition to Airbnb, many people in the Berkshires use HomeAway to rent out their houses. Like Airbnb, HomeAway is indicating that more than 90% of its rentals in the area are already booked for our date, so if you plan to do this, book something soon!

We have limited room for guests in the guest house, but those guests will be sleeping on couches or airbeds in communal spaces. If you absolutely need to “crash” in order to attend, please reach out to us and we’ll see what we can do. Be aware that you will be sleeping in large living room type areas of the house, and there will be others sleeping on pull-outs and airbeds in the same space. Also, you will be sleeping in the same space as the party, so it will be a late bedtime! You might need to bring an airbed, as we only have a few. Some family friends in the area have offered spaces in their homes as well. Please ask if you might be interested in this option.
