Question

What exactly are “poprawiny”?

Answer

“Poprawiny" literally translates to "corrections" or "improvements." In the context of a Polish wedding, it refers to a second day of festivities following the wedding day. The main idea is to extend the celebration and allow guests to enjoy more time with the newlyweds and other attendees. Unlike the formal wedding, "poprawiny" tend to be more relaxed and informal. Guests often dress casually, and the mood is more laid-back. There is usually a buffet-style meal with a variety of dishes, and plenty of drink options, especially beer and vodka. While not as elaborate as the wedding, there is often music and dancing, though it might be more spontaneous and less structured.
