My story began at the beginning of August. It was a Hot summer day and my daughter and I went for a dip at a friends pool. It was her first time jumping into the deep end without any assistance. It was a big day. August was also the month that I signed on to participate in the "Pray for your future spouse challenge" I took a leap of faith and joined the week long challenge. It was a life changing experience. All participants were invited to join "TOU" (The One University), and I did. It was in that first week that I wrote a Facebook blog post about my daughters swimming experience. Brittany left a comment on the post and that's when it began. I friend requested her and of course she accepted. She scanned through my profile and positioned herself to be found. The first thing I saw on her page was a spoken word performance that she gave a few weeks prior. I was now persuaded to drop a simple word of encouragement in regards to her post. From there she sparked a conversation that has gone on ever since. Sparks flew immediately and the flame has been set ablaze.....

August 30,2018. That was the day I noticed Robert for the first time. He's a writer and he posted an insightful blog about his daughter in a mutual group we share and… it was quite profound. As I read it, I commented as i normally would…"So you just gone preach like that?!" Lol. How was I supposed to know that he'd take notice? After all, I was literally ONE of over 40 comments! Anyway, he added me as a friend on FB after that and to be quite frank- I didn't even realize we were friends UNTIL… he slid into my DMs. This is where our stories differ. Rob will say that he didn't slide in, but don't let the loud talk fool you- HE DID. He had been browsing my page and noticed me walking in purpose and wanted to salute me from one artist to another. I got the message notification and wondered who he was-but i still responded and honestly- we just never stopped talking again. Rob was different. We connected on crazy levels and we began developing a beautiful friendship that now led us…HERE.

Well, Brittany had a speaking engagement for work in California and Rob came along for moral support. While there, Rob asked if they could visit the home Brittany was born in down in Compton, CA. It was a beautiful Saturday evening. The two had spent the earlier part of the day strolling Venice Beach, soaking up some sun rays and enjoying each others company. As the day begin to settle and the sun began to set, Brittany and Robert met up with her parents and nephew and the crew headed to Compton to see the home where it all began. As they arrived, the crew got out of the car and approached the home. Brittany knocked and spoke with the current residents. After a brief visit inside, Brittany came back out of the home and began walking to her car when her dad called her back up to the homes porch. She thought they were just going to be taking a picture when all of sudden… He pulled out the ring. She freaked out. She had no clue what was happening (despite several hiccups along the way). He got down on one knee and spoke to her heart. He reminded her of his purpose in her life and the significance of him taking her back to the place it all started. He then very slowly asked.. WILL YOU MARRY ME? Of course, she said yes!
