How We Met

We met during our Junior year of college, I had just transferred to UMHB! Kelley was competing in a school production called Crusader Knights. (Crusader Knights is a spoof version of our university's Miss Mary Hardin-Baylor Pageant). I was the choreographer so we spent many nights together while I tried to teach him, and the other contestants, how to dance! To my surprise, throughout the entire time rehearsing, Kelley had a HUGE crush and was working up the courage to ask me on a date. He asked me on a date a few days before the show and, like the goofball I am, I told him no...I might have said no at first, but God has a funny way of working things out! A few months went by and we found ourselves hanging out in the same friend group spending almost every day together. Kelley left for the summer to go work at a camp and I stayed behind in Belton to take classes. To escape the stresses of summer school and working, I would go visit him at camp on the weekends (safe to say I couldn't stay away)! We always say that is where we fell in love. That summer was amazing and full of kayaking, movies, swimming, lake days, and just goofing off together. He ended up asking me (again) on a date. This time I said yes without any hesitation! We have been inseparable since!!

The Proposal

5/6/2017

Kelley told me we were going to a nice restaurant in Austin for a date night to get me to dress up! Instead, he took me back to the spot we first met, the chapel on campus where Crusader Knights practices were held. That spot is so special to the both of us! We walked in and everything was dark except this BEAUTIFUL refurbished old glass door sitting on the stage. He had white lights covering and surrounding the door so it was the only thing lit in the entire room. He walked me up to the stage to where the door was and as I got closer I could see that the glass door was covered in pictures of us, beginning with the first picture we ever took! He grabbed my hands and began to talk. As soon as he started talking I was completely flooded with emotions and burst into tears! Tears of overwhelming joy!! He told me that he didn't know the exact moment he fell in love with me. He didn't know if it was during the summer visiting him at camp, kayaking or climbing the water tower, if it was watching the entire series of The Office, our numerous dance parties and jam sessions in the car, our endless walks behind his house with Boone, or if it was visiting me in England...He didn't know the exact moment he fell in love, but that every moment leading up to this moment all contributed to how much he loves me now. And he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He read me two bible verses, from Ephesians 5 and 1 Corinthians 13 (I am obviously still crying at this point). He then looked me in the eyes and said "I can't promise to love you perfectly like these verses tell me to, but I do promise you that I will do my best and to love and take care of you for the rest of our lives." Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!
