How it all began

A classic highschool sweetheart story

It all started with a tragic accident of water getting spilled on Kailene's digital camera at Track & Field practice. Clark knew the way to save it, get it in a bowl of rice immediately and Kailene was thankful for his advice! Come to find out they had mutual friends, and they stayed friends from that day always saying hi to each other at school, hanging out from time to time as a group with their friends. As highschool goes, they both hit rough patches in their current relationships. They confided in each other and started hanging out more one on one. Clark couldn't wait any longer, he had to shoot his shot. He asked Kailene out on a date to the movies, he chose a scary movie (classic move). At first when Clark admitted his feelings, Kailene said "eww no we can't date, we're friends I wouldn't want things to get weird". Clark persisted anyway and Kailene finally said yes to being his girlfriend on April 24, 2010.

The proposal

A hike to remember

In August of 2010, Clark's family took a camping trip to Yosemite Valley. Clark and Kailene had only just been dating for a few months, but he wanted to bring her on the week long trip with his family. On a whim, Clark, Kailene, and Clark's dad, Leif, deiced to hike to the top of Half Dome. It's an 18 mile round trip hike with a climb up a shear granite rock face and yes, they were very unprepared but they all did it anyway. Fast forward 9 years, the family all wanted to have another go at half dome, this time all together. Clark got the idea that this time he'd like to propose at the summit. The whole group knew what was going to happen at the top, except for Kailene who was blissfully unaware of the true plan. At the summit, Clark asked for a photo of just the two of them and suddenly all cameras turned to them. That's when he got down on one knee, barely forming the the words to ask the question and filled with anxiety of dropping the most important piece of jewelry he had ever gifted. Kailene dropped her jaw knowing what he was about to ask and of course she said yes!
