This weekend in June, Clare had known her parents were coming to town to visit her and her brother. A few weeks prior to this June 9th date, Pete had texted Clare asking her if we would be able to stop by a friend's surprise birthday party in Central Park for a few hours before they went to Comedy Cellar with Clare's parents. As they headed into the park that afternoon, Pete was acting a bit nervous and was not using his cell phone (which Clare found surprising considering they needed to be able to find this group for the surprise bday) but went along with it. After walking quite a bit, Pete got up on a hill and mentioned that he would be able to see the group from the top. Clare followed, and before they got to the top - Pete turned around pulled a box out of his backpack and got down on one knee to pop the question. Clare was in utter shock, but responded with a tearful and joyful "yes!." Then as they sat down on the hill to take in the moment, a bird pooped on Clare (guess that means good luck) and Pete let Clare know that his parents were also in town to celebrate the occasion! The rest of the day was spent celebrating with family and friends who helped to coordinate a surprise on our building rooftop (including his friend who's “surprise bday party" we were attending that afternoon in the park).
