Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Clara Shannazarian and Jack Shannazarian
Avila Beach is a small, picturesque town on California’s central coast, known for its relaxed atmosphere, sunny microclimate, and sheltered shoreline. Unlike the busier beaches nearby, Avila offers a quieter, more intimate setting with a wide sandy beach, calm waters, and scenic piers perfect for fishing, strolling, or watching sea lions. The town’s main street is lined with cafés, wine bars, and shops, giving it a cozy, welcoming feel, while the surrounding valley features vineyards, orchards, and natural hot springs that add to its charm. With opportunities for kayaking, hiking, or simply enjoying fresh seafood by the ocean, Avila Beach blends the best of coastal beauty and small-town hospitality, making it a favorite escape for both locals and visitors.
Avila Beach

Avila Beach

Avila Beach, CA

Feel free to plan a day at the beach before or after the wedding! The actual beach at Avila is a wide, crescent-shaped stretch of soft golden sand that gently slopes into calm, clear water. Because the bay faces south and is protected by surrounding headlands, the surf is usually mild compared to other Central Coast beaches, making it ideal for swimming, wading, paddleboarding, and families with kids. The shoreline is clean and inviting, with plenty of space for sunbathing or playing beach games, while the adjacent wooden pier offers a classic coastal backdrop. The water tends to be slightly warmer here than at nearby beaches, and the views look out across the Pacific framed by rolling hills, giving Avila Beach a bright, welcoming, and distinctly peaceful feel.

Bob Jones Bike Trail

Bob Jones Bike Trail

Bob Jones Bike Trail, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

The Bob Jones Trail, often called the “City to the Sea Trail”, is one of Avila Beach’s most popular outdoor attractions. It’s a 3-mile paved trail (about 6 miles round trip) that runs from Ontario Road to Avila Beach, following San Luis Obispo Creek through a shaded valley of oaks and sycamores. Because it’s flat, smooth, and car-free, it’s great for walking, jogging, biking, or pushing strollers, making it very family-friendly. Along the way, you’ll pass farmland, vineyards, a golf course, and scenic creek views before arriving right at the beach and Avila Pier. The trailhead at Ontario Road has free parking, restrooms, and picnic tables, and many visitors stop at the Avila Valley Barn nearby for fresh fruit, baked goods, or ice cream before or after their walk. The whole route takes about an hour on foot (or 20 minutes by bike), and because it’s mostly shaded, it’s comfortable even on warm days.
