A not-so-hidden gem! Consistently named one of the nation's best children's museums, this is a great spot for kids and families.
The Indy Zoo is just the best. Just ask Tori -- she makes a visit almost every time she comes to town. Animal chats are highly recommended as is the kangaroo experience.
Fountain Square has lots of little shops and restaurants to keep you occupied for an afternoon. Check out Howl and Hide, get a coffee at Bovaconti or Square Cat, and spend some time browsing at Rooftop Fruit or Tuggle's. La Margarita has great Mexican food and a killer margarita.
The Mass Ave area also has tons of little shops and restaurants to fill an afternoon. To name a few favorites, we love Silver in the City, Tomorrow Bookstore, Bru Burger, Love Handle (for brunch), Yats, and the Rathskeller. Get the pretzel and spicy mustard.
Our local neighborhood bookstore. Claire spends way too much time and money here...
Another great local bookstore that deserves your attention. This place has the best selection in the city and is a great place to sit and read and people watch on a nice afternoon.
This is our favorite restaurant in town. We head here for special occasions or dates. While it's a bit higher end, it's worth a visit if you've got the time.
St. Elmo is an Indy institution, and you don't even have to be a Parks and Rec fan to understand why. The shrimp cocktail is the best, and you can still get the chocolate cake for dessert (though it's not on the menu). The small bar upstairs is great if the restaurant is booked and busy.
Claire dreams about the grilled cheese and has a hard time ordering anything else every time she goes. The best spot in the city for brunch, just be prepared for everything to sound a little weird but taste very good.
A great spot for lunch or dinner! Get there early -- they don't take reservations, and it's a popular place to be.
Ask Amy, Kate or Cam about this place, or you probably already know about it. Great breakfast or lunch spot, and the omelettes can't be beat.
20 Tap is a bit farther away from downtown, but this is one of our top Friday night dinner spots. Great bar food and an awesome beer selection!
Some of the best Detroit style pizza you'll ever have. Order ahead and eat there, and get the El Jefe.
We went here on our first date! It's a dog-friendly local brewery, and we think it has the best beer in town.
A great local dive bar. Go to the old side for the genuine experience (you'll know which side is the old side when you walk in...). Grab some tear off tickets from the machine and have a bucket of High Life's.
Grab a loaf of bread or a sandwich. This place is great, and they have amazing baked goods, coffee, and gelato.
