It all started in high school marching band. Claire was a nervous freshman, excited to start high school but terrified to show up to band after missing the first week of camp for a family vacation. She had missed learning all of the drill routines and felt completely behind. But when she arrived, she learned that her section leader (Max) had already memorized all of her parts and personally took the time to catch her up. She’d only heard of him before that moment, but little did she know what God had in store. The next three years were full of laughs, awkward moments (which Max would eventually outgrow), and a couple of formal dance invitations that, sadly, never came to be—thanks, COVID. Max headed off to college with a lingering thought that maybe… he had missed out on something really special. Fast forward two years, Claire’s now a freshman at Saint Mary’s and Max a sophomore at Purdue. Once again, marching band brings them back together. The Purdue Marching Band was traveling to South Bend for the big Purdue vs. Notre Dame game. Purdue may have lost on the field (badly), and Max didn’t even get to see Claire that weekend—but he left with a new mission: win her heart. Four months of texting turned into a first date over winter break… which turned into forever.
