When we said you'd be getting a taste of our neighborhood, we weren't lying! We have specifially selected our wedding block hotel and these recs to show you where we live and what makes Austin so special to us! If you walk east on the riverfront trail from the hotel, you can see our apartment (Water Marq), our apartment patio, and the grass yard Jackson loves to romp in.
Need some snacks or drinks? Stop by our neighborhood grocery featuring local food + snacks, wine, craft beer & fun gifts! We go here almost every day and Jackson loves that he is allowed inside. We even stopped by for a few engagement photos since Thom's is such a special part of our daily routine. Thom's Riverside is a 10 min walk from Hyatt Regency. Note: Thom's has a great selection of beer, wine, n/a beverages, tea, soda but does not sell liquor. Looking for liquor? Check out Lando's.
Want to stock your hotel fridge? Lando's is very close to the hotel and has beer, wine, and liquor. The entrance is on Riverside Drive on the first floor of a parking garage. Note: in Texas there is no liquor sold in grocery stores or corner stores so any liquor has to be purchased at a liquor store.
Trail entrance located right behind hotel - use exit near outdoor dining + pool. Claire and Keefe (and Jackson - woof!) go on almost daily walks/runs on the trail - If it's a clear day or evening, turn right and go 1 mile east for a gorgeous view of downtown on the boardwalk portion of the trail. Or head west for grassy Butler Park where people picnic, play sports, and for great dog sightings! If you're feeling super ambitious do the whole 10 mile loop.
The first BBQ spot we went to when we first visited Austin and still a favorite of ours 3 years later. They have the smoker going 364 days a year 24 hours a day so they never run out of brisket - it's great every time! Pro tip: Go Thurs or Friday for lunch to avoid having to wait in the weekend line.
A popular 9 hole par-3 course plus bar food & a beer garden. Walkable from hotel - No reservations required. Club + ball rentals available. Sandwiches, snacks & beverages for purchase in the Clubhouse, on-site food truck with popular burgers, courtyard with seating and yard games, TVs streaming major sporting events, and like much of Austin is leashed dog-friendly.
We have loved learning to play pickleball. Our favorite courts are at Bouldin Acres which is quintessential Austin sports bar and patio with pickleball, a dog park, indoor/outdoor patio, and food trucks. Don't worry about packing your paddle - paddles and balls are rentable for a small fee.
An Austin original taco spot that started as a food truck in 2008 and now has a permanent spot right on the South Congress Bridge. Take the trail to the bridge and go up the stairs. Enjoy the beautiful walk across the bridge to Veracruz. On the way you’ll get a great view of the capital and downtown. Order ahead on their website to avoid waiting in line! Vegan and GF friendly.
