The best way to explore many of the activites below is via the KC Streetcar! A newer addition to the city, it is a free and easy way to travel up and down Main Steet. It goes north/south from the riverfront to the Plaza. We've linked some free things to do along the route.
We live, work and date on the Country Club Plaza. From drinks at Prime Social where we first met, our first date spot at Gram and Dun, unique food finds at The Better Cheddar or KC-shopping and coffee at Made In KC, feel free to walk around our little corner of Kansas City!
Kansas City's riverfront went from 0-100 real quick! Whether it is walking around City Market for some fresh and unique farmers market finds or taking the streetcar route to see the first stadium built for a women's sports team (KC Current!), we recommend spending some time along the Missouri riverfront.
Kansas City's Power and Light District is home to the city's main bar and restaurant scene. If you're looking for some active night life, hit up KC Live!
One of our first dates was ice skating at Crown Center. It was there that Claire realized Sawyer was different from the rest and they shared a pepperoni and jalapeno pizza (Sawyer's go-to.) Start at Crown Center, then use the skywalk inside the Westin Hotel to connect to Union Station!
If you're a history buff, the National WWI Memorial and Museum is a must. The only national museum for WWI, it is impressively curated to walk you through the war from start to finish. You can spend hours walking around, reading stories and seeing real artifacts from the war. Pro-tip: you can see the iconic KC skyline from the top of the memorial, but we recommend going to the top of the tower for the best view!
Another iconic KC museum. The Nelson Atkins is a beautiful collection of international art. Explore the inside exhibits and then walk through the main lawn to see the shuttlecocks!
KC has a historic jazz scene that you can explore in the 18th and Vine District. Head to the jazz museum and participate in a double header at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum next door.
One of Claire's favorite places to go in Kansas City is the zoo. Spend the day exploring the 200+ acres of wildlife conservation from the African desert to the bottom of the ocean!
This is Claire's favorite KC BBQ restaurant. Get the burnt ends and beans! We've linked the one in her hometown of Blue Springs, but you can also try the Lenexa, KS location
An OG spot. Formerly known as Oklahoma Joe's, you can fill up both your stomach and your gas tank at Joe's. Try their signature Rocket Pig sandwich. This is Sawyer's preferred BBQ joint.
When figuring out where we want to go for a date night, Sail Away Wine is typically in our top choices. A wall full of self-serve wine and delicious flat breads to pair, enjoy an intimate night in North KC!
Our date to the Green Lady Lounge is one we cherish. It is a dark, moody jazz lounge with some delightful cocktails.
KC is full of history. We've linked an article to explore more historic places dealing with the civil war, pioneer trails, and even our home-grown President Harry S. Truman.
