1997: Both moms, needing groceries packed the car with the kids and went off to the Publix at the Plantation Promenade on Cleary Road. There, as tradition would have it, the first stop for every kid was the bakery. There was always a line and Christina noted the rambunctious Asian kids debating the same decision she was about to make, sprinkles or chocolate chip. This may be the first time Jonathan caught a glance at Christina, but this would not be where they meet. Nor the countless times they traversed the aisles doing their grocery shopping at the same location. 1998: Christina’s brother was playing little league. Their father was an assistant coach and Jonathan was one of the other 11 kids on the team. This young Jon had not been prescribed his glasses yet and even though Christina was present, Jonathan never had a chance to see or meet her here. 2005-2007: The story repeats with an older Jon (prescribed glasses and even upgrading to contacts). He joined the high school baseball team, the same team Phil would join. Rosie and Dawn worked together running the baseball booster club, concession stand, and all the other nuances of high school sports. Christina found herself at the baseball field a few times and even got used to hearing the name J.Lau. As cool as it sounded she never desired to meet him. Although she notes that his long hair was incredibly sexy, she was college bound and did not meet her future husband here. 2009: Jon went off to college and might have guessed that going to UCF would put him on the same campus as his future wife. There were over 50 thousands students with an overwhelming percentage being female. Jonathan had no car and relied on friends to go back and forth from South Florida. Many times he would end up at an apartment of a friend's sister who happened to be roommates with Christina. Can you believe Jonathan could be in Christina’s apartment multiple times and still they never met? 2014: Phil’s college graduation, which Christina was unable to attend due to touring with Sesame Street. As Rosie sat there waiting for Phil to walk across the stage a name caught her attention. It was Jonathan pulling some belly bump shenanigans on stage that quickly resulted in a text to Dawn congratulating Jon and the family on graduating. 2019: (19 is J. Lau's number) Jonathan tried out the app Bumble. He charmed up his profile and proceeded to wait with the patience of a fisherman. Christina came across this profile and swiped right; to her astonishment it was a match. Now the pressure was on. Does she engage this person who seems to have a nice smile on his profile? Christina quickly takes a screenshot and sends it to Phil, stating he seems familiar. Phil tells Christina, "It’s JLau from high school/college. He's actually a really nice guy". So Christina took a breath and sent the first message officiating their match. Their first date came a little while after at the World of Beer, where Jonathan who showed up 10 min early got a taste for Christina’s punctuality and found her waiting for him. They talked for the evening where Jonathan wasn’t sure if Christina reiterating it being past her bedtime was her pushing him away or her making an exception to stay out a little longer because she was intrigued. Jonathan and Christina knew each other 6 months before the pandemic shutdown put every relationship to the test. Can you stand to be locked down together? That answer should be obvious here and 2 years after the initial lockdown Jonathan, nervous with sweaty hands, got down on one knee and asked Christina to be his love forever and always. Christina didn’t hesitate. With a leap and hug the answer was yes. Christina and Jonathan are very excited for everyone to celebrate their love story, as one the universe was always intending to put together. The families and friends invited undoubtedly played a part in the many “Wait, I was there too. How did we not meet?” moments.
