Dogwood trees

The problem with horse people

One day we were shopping for Lilac bushes for our yard and the place we were at had a beautiful dogwood tree, all ablaze with blossoms. I told Hunny that if he ever felt the need to propose, I would be much more receptive to a tree such as that one, than some old hunk of metal jewelry that I would not likely ever want to wear. Fast forward a week or so, and our horses are having their feet trimmed by the stalwart Kendra Legters, when Hunny arrives home from work. He says he needs to show me something down by our swimming hole. Now we go there a lot and there are often peculiar things to be seen, so this is not an unusual request. But Kendra and I are talking about driving ponies and other such riveting topics and we are looking at the indoor arena and taking our time with a general discussion about training and so on. Hunny keeps saying “Bye Kendra” and of course she keeps on not leaving because we are in the middle of solving some of the most perplexing problems the horse world has wrestled with since the dawn of time. Finally she departs as it is nearly dark, and by this time, Hunny is just about beside himself. He takes my hand and just about drags me out to the creek and now, sending his urgency, I am starting to be concerned that one of our pets has drowned or something. But as we arrive on the shore of our swimming hole, there sits the beautiful dogwood tree, just waiting so patiently for us. Hunny drops to his knee and looks me in the eyes so sincerely, and delivers a heartfelt proposal, that was impossible to resist. When you visit the Hollow you will see the “Love Tree” planted in the front circle and enclosed by a fence to keep her safe from errant goats. And if you attend our wedding festivities, we will endeavor to reenact the Proposal for your entertainment!
