Like all great TCU love stories, Alisha and CJ’s began with a shared love for Horned Frog basketball. They first met through mutual friends and Christ Chapel College Church. Alisha was a loyal TCU sports fan, and CJ was a manager for the basketball team. The very first time CJ saw Alisha was at a Christ Chapel Pickleball event the summer before senior year. He told his friend that he was interested, but decided not to pursue it, unsure where life would take them after graduation. Fast forward to senior year, Alisha asked CJ for basketball tickets, and he happily sent them to her. He tried to start a conversation, but when that attempt was left unanswered, he figured she wasn’t interested. The next time they crossed paths was second semester of senior year, after a tough home loss to #25 ranked Texas (by 23 points, for the record). CJ had just injured his knee, not falling for Alisha, but close, and was in recovery mode from a tibial fracture. Their mutual friend happened to drive both of them home that night. Alisha assumed CJ wasn’t interested since he was unusually quiet, but in his defense, he’d just witnessed a big loss to Texas, was crammed in the back of a Honda Civic, and could barely move his knee. After graduation, life took them in different directions, but kept them both in Fort Worth. Alisha began working as an Occupational Therapy Tech and CJ started his career in Private Equity. They still followed each other on the app BeReal but hadn’t reconnected until one day CJ posted a photo moving into his new house in Stonegate. Alisha commented and CJ, surprised to see her name pop up, decided to shoot his shot again, this time by texting her to hang out since they now lived right down the street from each other. That hangout took some time to happen since CJ went back home to Hawaii for three weeks. He was sure Alisha would stop texting, especially given his “ghosted once” history, but to his surprise, she kept the conversation going. Before he returned, CJ asked Alisha out to the Clearfork Farmers Market for their first date. And after a few more, he officially asked her to be his girlfriend. More than two years later, Alisha and CJ are engaged and in a long-distance relationship while she attends OT school in Nashville and he remains in Fort Worth. They look forward to doing life in the same city once again!
