We first crossed paths in 2017 during a night out with friends. A mutual friend introduced us, but neither of us thought much of it at the time. As the night went on — and the liquid courage kicked in — Cinthia made the boldest move of her life: she gently removed (okay, pushed) the girl dancing with Roxanne and took her place beside her. We never left each other’s side after that… and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
The day of the proposal started like any other—at least that’s what I (Cinthia) thought. We had planned a nice date night for our five-and-a-half-year anniversary, so nothing felt out of the ordinary. We went to Nick & Sam’s, ate way too much, had incredible drinks, and I quietly wondered if maybe it would happen at dinner. If Roxanne was going to propose, she’d pick somewhere private and intimate… definitely not in front of a crowd. But dinner ended, we got in the valet line, got in the car, and headed home. As we merged onto the freeway, I accepted that it was just a really good date night. No proposal. No big surprise. When we got home, everything still seemed normal. I walked inside—no decorations, no hints—used the restroom, and came out ready to change into comfy clothes. That’s when Roxanne said, “Babe, let’s go outside.” If you know us, you know the backyard is our happy place, so I didn’t think twice. The second she opened that door, my jaw dropped. I had never imagined a proposal like the one in front of me. There was a white carpet covered in rose petals, soft fairy lights everywhere, photos from every year we’ve been together, every trip, every memory. A giant red balloon heart arc framed a glowing “Will You Marry Me?” sign. And standing around it all were the people closest to us—exactly the intimate moment I always wanted without even realizing it. My son handed Roxanne the ring (and gave her a little celebratory dap), and I could barely keep it together. I was shaking, crying, laughing—it felt surreal. And then, right surrounded by the people we love so much, Roxanne asked me to marry her. I said yes… and stepped into our forever.
