How We Met

It goes down in the DMs - by Cindy

It was the summer before my senior year at Texas Tech University, and I decided to stay in Lubbock that summer to study for the MCAT. After studying one day, my girl Ijeoma and I decided to go to Chipotle for lunch. Upon walking in, Ijeoma got a little excited and said "Ooh girl, Nnamdi is working the line. He's gonna hook us up!". I looked up and noticed this tall, handsome, extra-friendly guy who I recognized. We got through the line and of course, he "hooked us up" and Ijeoma shared her greetings with him. I briefly introduced myself, but because it was so busy it was only for a brief. When we got back to Ijeoma's apartment, ijeoma said "You should follow him so you guys stay connected. And girl Nnamdi is so sweet, everyone loves Nnamdi." I remember scrolling through his photos on Instagram and thinking to myself, "aww he seems like a sweet guy" so I followed him on Instagram. Moments later *ping, ping, ping* he liked a few of my pics. I was flattered and impressed by how quickly he moved. So I kindly found two of my favorite photos on his page and returned the favor. I put my phone down and turned off the lights with the intention of going to bed. But very soon after *ping, ping". Nnamdi has now slid into my DMs with a selfie and the classic line of "Do I know you from somewhere?". I replied to the message and we carried a very good conversation for the rest of the evening. Eventually, we exchanged numbers and continued our conversations. Nnamdi, pretty soon into our conversations asked me on a date, which I was impressed by because guys then did not do that often. I was flattered and accepted. We went to Chuys and talked for over 4 hours not realizing that our food had not even made it out. Our food for the evening ended up being on the house and Nnamdi and I continued our conversation until the restaurant closed. Since that day, we have talked every day. I knew then that this was going to be something special.

The Proposal

It's always been you! - by Nnamdi

While Cindy was back home for vacation, I told her that we were invited to my cousin's Halloween party that weekend and the theme was "Great Gatsby" so we had to dress formal and look fly! Little did she know (ok she might've known a lil something) I had been tirelessly planning for this day for months. We arrived at the Mandalay Canal in Las Colinas. I told her the "party location" was located by the water and we had to ride a gondola to get there as a part of the Gatsby theme ;). I was SUPER nervous which she probably sensed lol. When we arrived at the gondola, it was beautifully decorated with rose petals, candles with some champagne on ice. At this point, she was probably catching on but I had to keep my game face on and stick to the script. As we were sailing along the water, the sun was beginning to set and our gondola captain alerted us to a bottle in the water and asked us to grab it and see what it was. I retrieved the bottle and handed it to Cindy. She opened it and found a note inside that said, "It's always been you..." By the time she looked up, I was getting on one knee (almost causing the boat to tip over lol) and I began to profess my love for her and how much she meant to me. Then at last, the moment came and I asked her if she would make me the happiest man on earth and be my wife...she said YES! We then sailed back to shore and went on to celebrate with our family and close friends.
