Steffon and Cidney met on Tinder in November 2016 right after Thanksgiving! Cidney had just recently moved back to the states after living in Abu Dhabi and Steffon had just recently relocated back to Maryland after living in New York. They were both ready to re-enter the dating scene and as fate would have it, they matched on Tinder. It's been said that Steffon SUPER LIKED Cidney's profile, but if you ask him, he'll probably deny it. Steffon was Cidney's first ever online date and she was so nervous about being catfished. Thank goodness they both actually looked like their pictures. What was supposed to be a quick lunch date on a Wednesday quickly turned into three hours talking and walking around the harbor. That same week, they went on three other dates all planned by Steffon, which is a huge deal because he is not a planner! After a few months of dating, they made it official in February 2017.

On December 23, 2018, Steffon set up an amazing scavenger hunt around Washington D.C. that incorporated some of the important milestones in his and Cidney's relationship. Clue #1 read, “Here we wished for 50 years of happiness together. Two years down and at least 48 more to go. Where did we make this wish?” The answer was the African American Museum! When Cidney got there, she received the next clue! Clue #2 read, "You were literally head over heels, DRUNK in love, when you professed your love for me. Where did we share this moment?" Cidney was so embarrassed at this one 😳! This answer was Capitol Skyline Hotel. Clue #3 read, "Whoa now! Cidney is in the ocean. I don’t know what I am going to tell Ms. King! Your BFF was prepared with GPS coordinates just in case. On our first date we rode high on this in the sky!" Here's a little back story about this clue. As mentioned before, Steffon was Cidney's FIRST EVER online date. To be on the safe side, she shared her GPS location with her best friend and maid of honor Alex. While Alex was tracking Cidney, the map showed her that Cidney was in the Potomac River. Alex thought Steffon had either thrown Cidney or her phone in the river, but actually they were on the Ferris wheel above lol. Clue #4 read, "Where did we actually first meet? And then where did we go afterward?" On their first date, Cidney and Steffon originally met at this crab cake shack but Steffon didn’t think it was fancy enough for a first date, so then they walked across the street to McCormick & Schmick. The final clue read, "You’ve been patient! Now it’s time... Let’s take a walk to the final step of the journey!" Cidney's cousins Latoya and Erika had been her personal escorts ever since she received the first clue at Macy’s. They took her up a set of large stairs that led to both their family and friends holding signs that read: “Steffon ❤️’s Cidney. Will you marry me!!!
