Nope! We do not have a traditional registry, but we have a "Newly Wed Fund" where you can send monetary gifts electronically or physically the day of the wedding. There will also be an opportunity to write a message for us in a red envelope to be placed in a collection box. In Chinese culture, guests will give red envelopes with money inside to the couple as wedding gifts. Red symbolizes happiness, prosperity and good luck. Superstition is also engrained within the culture. Typically even numbers are considered auspicious, because they come in pairs. The number "8" sounds like fortune in Chinese and is believed to carry a prosperous meaning. The only unlucky even number is number "4", which sounds like death and is believed to be an unlucky omen. To send gifts electronically, feel free to use these platforms: - Venmo: @Christina-Chyr - Zelle: 347-932-8404
The chinese character you see on our registry, your invitation, and around our wedding means double happiness (shuāng xǐ / 双喜). It is a common symbol typically used as decoration at weddings.
