We met while starting our master’s program at Rocky Vista University (RVU). Before classes even began, Ethan messaged Ashlyn on Facebook through the RVU accepted students page. Ashlyn says he was just scrolling for cute girls… Ethan insists he was simply “trying to meet new people.” Either way, one message turned into a conversation, and the rest is history 🤍
During a medical mission trip to Honduras, Ethan carried the ring with him the entire time in a fanny pack and even slept with it so he would not lose it. His original plan was to propose on a “hike behind a waterfall” on the last day of the trip. But that day, the bus driver was delayed, so Ashlyn wanted to stop by the butterfly pavilion at the hotel. While they were there, Ethan told Ashlyn to go stand on a bridge over a small pond filled with fish, with butterflies flying all around them. When Ashlyn turned around, Ethan was down on one knee. It ended up being the perfect moment. And honestly, it was probably for the best, because the "waterfall hike" later turned out to be absolutely terrifying, involving climbing through the waterfall and hanging onto wires. Definitely a near-death experience… and a story you can ask us about later.
Over the years, we have grown through so much together. From getting our master’s degrees to being accepted into medical school, we have supported each other through every late night, long study session, and big milestone along the way. Even in the middle of busy schedules, we always make time for each other, whether that means a date night, a small break from studying, or just enjoying time together. We are so grateful for everything we have built together and are so excited for all that is ahead.
