James and Shelby were both born and raised in Lexington, MA. They did not really know each other until high school where they had some similar friends. Shelby's first memories of James are from driver's ed class where they were often grouped together to do activities (James has NO memory of this, of course). However, James finally noticed Shelby during a senior high school trip to Hampton Beach with 10 of their closest friends. After a romantic walk on the beach, James kissed Shelby under the stars and the rest is history!

James planned a trip to Bar Harbor, ME and wanted to propose before dinner during a night on their trip. The day of the proposal was the only day that there were chances of severe thunderstorms. Shelby was confused why James was so concerned about the weather as dinner would be inside. After constant updates about the delay in thunderstorms, James and Shelby arrived early to the downtown Bar Harbor area. It was "golden hour" for photos so Shelby insisted they stop and take pictures at every spot. Shelby also had some bizarre interest in an old cemetery and wanted her and James to look at the different size gravestones. After claiming to get a bad-vibe from the graveyard, James finally got a reluctant Shelby to leave so they could meet up with their friends Bryan and Kelsey for dinner at the Bar Harbor Inn. Bryan asked to take some pictures outside with them as the views were beautiful and who doesn't need a new instagram pic? While James and Shelby took their pictures, he pulled Shelby close and asked her to marry him. After 9 years, Shelby finally got to say yes!
