17 miles up the mountain from Port Angeles, a major Olympic National Park hotspot with the easiest access to epic views and easy(to however hard you wanna go) hikes! We have both spent A LOT of time on this ridge. Charlie was part of building the paved Hurricane Hill trail and Annie was part of the multi-year relocation of mountain goats!
Wow guys. We love the Elwha. It's a perfect river. From the mouth of the Elwha where is meets the saltwater Strait of Juan de Fuca, to the basin 45 miles into the interior and the center of the park, this river has my heart. We love the elwha. Please look up it's amazing history and it's resurrection from the dam revomal a decade ago! You can't drive very far up this river valley due to it's enormous power and strength (it washed the rd out years ago). But simply driving to Madison Falls parking area (~10min drive from the party house to the end of the rd) and saying hello to our beautiful pack mules, a 5 min walk to a lovely little waterfall, and a mandatory toe dip in the best river ever.. is a wonderful way to kill an hr. OR there's hotsprings (a major trek, preferably with bikes), rafting possibilities, climbing at our local sandstone crag, surfing at the mouth.. there's so much!
The Olympic Discovery Trail is a very lovely walking/biking trail from central PA. It's also a badass longer bike ride (paved/single track) connecting Port Townsend to Lake Crescent. Ask us more if you're bringing a bike up! Ediz Hook is a nice viewpoint of PA and Victoria, BC / 'beach' walk / birding spot right in 'downtown' PA. great for sunsets
The Sol Duc is another beautiful river valley offering amazing rainforest and alpine hikes. There's also a hotspring resort here if you're interested in treating yourself without having to hike over a dozen miles to get to some natural hot water. Sol Duc waterfall is a 2mile roundtrip hike from there. Also there's a really cool viewing platform ((THAT CHARLIE (+crew) BUILT)) to see the salmon run that's off the Sol Duc rd. The Sol Duc is accessed off hwy 101, just west of Lake Crescent. Also accessed off Lake Crescent - Storm King Trail (4 miles round trip & 2k elevation grain to a beautiful view of lake crescent - Marymere Falls (2 miles round trip, flat trail to a lovely waterfall, great for the whole fam) - Spruce Railroad trail (mostly paved trail on the non hwy side of the lake with fishing & cliff jumping opportunities) ...And so much more!!!
