FAQs

Check out the FAQ's below but don't hesitate to reach out to Christy if you have any questions. We will also add some recommended things to do soon for your free time in Cozumel.
Question

What if I'm not staying at Chango Villa?

Answer

The Villa will be our official gathering place and all are welcome there anytime to just hang out! www.changovilla.com. Check out the travel page for other accommodation options. Cozumel has many to choose from but we've added a couple that are within walking distance of the villa if you want to be nearby.

Question

Can I use USD$ in Cozumel?

Answer

Yes! Most places in Cozumel will take USD and credit cards. Be sure to have some cash on hand for taxis. The official currency is the Mexican peso, but almost just as official is the American dollar and it is widely accepted. Many prices will be shown in pesos, but in tourist restaurants both are normally shown and accepted. If you need to get funds you can use ATM's in several locations, but the money will be pesos.

Question

What if I arrive before 3 p.m. check in on Saturday?

Answer

Welcome to paradise! There are many things to do, although we understand arriving and carrying around luggage until check in can be more difficult. There are three beach clubs within a few minutes walk from Chango Villa and the condos where you can grab a bite right on the water- Chulas, Carlos & Charlies and Paradise Beach Club. If you're standing on the beach at the villa, they are just a few steps to the left on the beach. There are many other places you can grab lunch as well on the way from the airport. Some of our favorites include Blue Angel and the Money Bar, which are both on the way from the airport.

Question

Do I need a passport to go to Cozumel?

Answer

Umm YES! If you don't have a current passport you better get it now or we will miss you :(

Question

Is Cozumel safe?

Answer

Yes! We have spent a lot of time in Cozumel (especially Randy), and have always felt very safe. The locals are very friendly. As with any destination, just use common sense.

Question

What will the weather be like in Cozumel?

Answer

Hopefully beautiful :). We are at the end of dry season and not in hurricane season so it should be very nice. Plan for mid 70's to mid 80's and pray for no rain at least on Sunday.

Question

What do I bring?

Answer

Mostly casual, comfortable clothes and of course whatever you plan to wear for the wedding. Keep in mind that while there are beautiful beaches in Cozumel (including the one at the villa), some areas of the shoreline is iron shore and can be rough on your feet. You will benefit from having WATER SHOES! Cozumel has some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world. If you have SNORKEL GEAR you should bring it as well as you won't want to miss it and you can snorkel right off the beach from the Villa! SUNSCREEN! We will be in the tropics and spending a lot of time enjoying the beautiful outdoors. While there are places at the villa outside to escape from the sun, you will want to make sure you have sunscreen for pool and beach time.

Question

Can I go to the grocery store?

Answer

Yes, there are many grocery store options in Cozumel. If you have special dietary needs, it's a good idea to go on your way from the airport as the biggest stores with the most options are in San Miguel (about 20 min away from the house).

Question

Will meals be provided?

Answer

Check out the schedule page for details of planned events. We will have some appetizers for the arrival gathering on Saturday eve and be providing dinner on Sunday at the reception. There are a few beach clubs within walking distance, most open 8-5 and serve lunch. Taxi's are generally easy to get from the road if you want to explore other restaurants on the island for other meals (there are many great ones to choose from). You can always go to grocery store as well if you prefer to have something readily available at the house or condos.

Question

Will my cell phone work in Cozumel?

Answer

This depends on your carrier and if they have international options. Check with your cell provider on international options as some of them are easy and some can be very expensive if you don't plan ahead. Note that if you enable WiFi calling or use FaceTime or What's App you can use internet calling while you're connected to Wifi.
