Chuy’s Tex Mex started in this location before growing nationwide. Start with a frozen margarita and chips with creamy jalapeño dip, then try the steak burrito (Christy’s favorite) or the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas (Matt’s favorite).
la Barbecue
Our favorite barbecue spot, located in East Austin, has the best brisket and mac and cheese. To save time, order online two or more days in advance. You'll be able to have your order prepared fresh and eat there without waiting in line.
Loro
Our favorite happy hour spot! We love this Asian smokehouse for its frozen cocktails, brisket, and outdoor patio seating.

Explore the state Capitol as a partially air conditioned walk or take a free guided tour.
Retro Boat Rentals
Take a vintage boat around Lady Bird Lake in the heart of downtown! We took one out over New Year's in 2021 for Matt's first visit to Austin. For a more active adventure, try the paddle boards and kayaks available for rent on the lake.
Lady Bird Lake Trail
Take a walk (or a run) around Lady Bird Lake. Keep your eyes peeled for turtles in the lake!
South Congress Shopping
Check out local eclectic stores, sidewalk sales, and newer brands on Austin's main drag for shopping. We like Mi Casa Galleria, Allen's Boots, Parts & Labor, and Christy's current company, Tecovas. Perla's and Magnolia Cafe are also popular brunch spots. You can also take a picture in front of Jo's Coffee's famous "I love you so much" sign!
Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden
Come here to work remotely outside on Friday. We like their coffee, cocktails, and coffee cocktails. They also have food trucks on site.
