Her Story

November 18th 2015

Before pre-season for volleyball began my sophomore year at William Jewell College, I received my dorm assignment--Jones Hall. This was the quaint and tiny dorm on our campus that people often complain smells like a nursing home, but I liked it for its big rooms--and closets. Little did I know that living in Jones also sealed my destiny to meet my future husband. On move-in day, Christopher met me at the front door ready and willing to help me carry in all of my things. He was my RA (I love making that point to people when they ask how we met--Chris hates it). For all of you that know him, he is so sweet, welcoming and helpful even to those he does not know. However, while I thought he was very nice, at this time I was not yet interested in him. Later that day, I needed my bed to be raised in order to fit my mini fridge under it, and so Chris gladly, and quickly, set my bed up--he is highly regarded as the bed-frame guy to all past and present housing staff because of his unmatched skills in bed-frame configuring. Right after he left, I decided the height was too tall and re-did it by myself! Flash forward to November, and Chris and I hung out practically every day. If we were not in class or at practice, you could find us in Jones in the front lobby. November 17th is Chris' birthday and after his family and friends left, we stayed up until 2am, when Chris finally mustered up the courage to ask me to go on a date. A week later, we went to Cheddar's in Liberty and talked so long the place closed before we could finish our dinner. I have loved him ever since.

His Story

November 18th 2015

Even though we had technically been going to the same school for a year, I first really saw Grace when she was moving into Jones Hall as a resident of mine – yes, I was her R.A. I remember sharing some friendly smiles with her folks who were helping her move in while I was in the lobby handing out room keys and checking in other residents. That same day, she asked me to help her adjust her bed frame (which are, in fact, a pain to do), so I guess that was my first real encounter with Grace. One day, I had a buddy over and he saw Grace and was like, “Dude! You should talk to her!”, so I guess that’s when I started considering the idea of speaking with her. Our second encounter (if my memory is correct) was her popping her head into my door and asking me if I played guitar (which I did) and if I could help her practice sometime (which I certainly would do). So we practiced the night before she was going to play at the chapel for MOSAIC and I was like, “Sweet! She loves Jesus!” Fast forward a little while and we get to 2am on the night of my birthday when I decided that I finally had the courage to ask her out on a date, to which she accepted. That same Friday, we had a wonderful date (the old fashioned dinner and movie combo) and the rest is pretty much history!
