They Met

Chris and Flo matched on Hinge, an app that claims it is “a dating app meant to be deleted”. They were both in pursuit of something real and so, they met at Licha’s Cantina for Happy Hour circa February 2020 while the world was still alive and full of possibilities. After the always awkward “are you ____?” Chris and Flo went to where they are their most authentic selves, the bar. Four hours later they had discovered their shared passion for building community, the interweaving of sociology and psychology, and their shared tastes in music. A first date could not have gone better, Chris was in awe and accidentally used someone else’s dirty napkin, and Flo, with butterflies up to her head, backed into a motorcycle after saying goodbye for the night. If the owner of that motorcycle sees this website, she’s sorry.

They Fell in Love

The next few dates quickly followed suit, since mass gatherings still seemed safe for Austinities provided they washed their hands for 20 seconds. With timing on their side, these two formed a bond right before the looming bicho (bug) made it’s debut in Austin. Once the mandates rolled in, Chris & Flo took to quarantine like two love birds who just found the perfect nest. They spent their time making tacos, watching Tiger King, and discovering all there was to know about one another. While partaking in what is arguably Chris and Flo’s favorite meal, breakfast, Chris prepared the best home fries ever. Flo, overwhelmed by this sweet man, exclaimed (or some perceived, slipped out) “you’re so sweet and I love you!” Their eyes grew wide, Chris reciprocated and they embraced in a hug while Chris still held the pan full of potatoes.

They Met the Families

Flo brought Chris home to her Chilean family of seven (eight if you count the rambunctious and lovable dog, Blue), where they spent many cherished dinners together. Chris came to love Flo’s family too, always finding topics to discuss with Flo’s dad, practicing his Spanish with Flo’s mom, and hanging with her siblings. With a longing for Chris’ album collection and a woman worth bringing home to mom, Chris convinced Flo to join him on a 28-hour cross-country voyage back home to Connecticut, Flo’s first trip to New England. Mind you, it was the middle of the pandemic so they made sure they wore masks, gloves, and even wiped their shoes with Clorox after gas station bathrooms (we knew nothing about the pandemic at this point). Flo met Chris’ parents and family, and then days after meeting the parents, joined them for a camping trip in Maine (talk about big steps). They ate lobster, played Chinese checkers, and walked around the coastal town of Kennebunkport. The trip was a success!

They Knew

And so it went for over a year and a half. These two love spending time together, especially when it involves music and a good drink (preferably prepared by Chris). They enjoy the company of each other’s families and LOVE collecting plants. They admire each other, push one another to be better versions of themselves, support one another when times are tough, and run excitingly towards adventure. They both knew they had found someone special: a best friend, a lover, and a life partner. On November 20th, 2021 with the help of Dominga (Flo’s sister) Chris set up an entire rouse to have Flo taken to get her nails done and be delivered to the beautiful Pease Park at sunset. Chris was waiting, prepared to ask her to marry her with a bouquet of her favorite flowers and a personally designed engagement ring. He asked for her hand in both English and Flo’s native language, Spanish to which, without, hesitation, she said yes. His plan of a day wasn’t over; he surprised her with her family and friends at Licha’s cantina (their first date spot) for a post-engagement celebration.
