How We Met

"We are all a little weird, life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we fall into mutual weirdness and call it love."- Dr. Suess

It was 2015, the start of our college careers at Dutchess Community College, where we were both enrolled in a behavioral health science course. One day, I arrived late, took my seat, and felt a tap on my shoulder from the guy behind me saying "Hey don't miss the assignment she posted on the board." I shyly said thank you and quickly turned around, wondering why this guy was talking to me. Later that day, while walking to the library, that same guy just happened to be heading there too. He came up to me and said, "Aren't you in my BHS class? Want to study together?" I replied, "Uh... Sure?". And the rest is history. We started dating that summer, building our relationship through hiking adventures, camping trips, and discovering our shared love for nature. We both graduated from Dutchess Community College, following the science and pre-medical tracks, and went on to study biological sciences at SUNY New Paltz, where we earned our Bachelors degrees. During our time in New Paltz, we had the chance to live together and continued to grow our relationship-along with our three pet rats at the time. After graduation, we moved to Poughkeepsie into an apartment we loved, adopted our two cats, Percy and Freya, and both began our careers in the medical field. Chris worked as a patient care technician in a hospital, while I worked as a dialysis patient care technician. Chris went on to earn his certification as a cardiac sonographer, where he found his true calling, and I went on to pass my nursing boards and become a dialysis registered nurse, continuing to grow in the field I love. Over the past 10 years, through all of life's ups and downs, we've grown together, overcoming challenges and building a relationship and companionship that mean everything to us. The love we share is beyond words, and we owe so much of who we are today to the support of our family and friends. We are so grateful for everyone who has been part of our journey, and we can't wait to celebrate our love with all of you.
