Victor and I began talking on Monday, December 3rd, 2018. With both of our busy school schedules, finals schedules, family vacations, and the holidays, it seemed impossible for us to get the chance to actually hang out. Fortunately, we were able to do a lot of texting and phone calls. Through this month of "talking", I realized he was a pretty special man and could not wait to return to Nashville to hang out with him. On January 3rd, we had planned our first official date. We had planned to go to a local coffee shop after Victor finished with class that afternoon, but there was no seating available so we ended up at Starbucks. From there, we talked for several hours and decided to continue the date and go to Baja Burrito for dinner. The next day, Victor came over to my house to have dinner and watch a movie with 4 of my roommates and friends. He came bearing mini cupcakes for all of us. He definitely won some points with my friends for the cupcakes. The following day we decided to go on a hike (I know, 3 dates in a row) and it was this day Victor claims he knew he wanted to date me. He asked me a very important question- if God were to call you to missions and you had to leave everything behind would you go? Without hesitation I said, of course, I would go. At that moment Victor knew he wanted to make this serious. So the day after next, on January 7th, 2019 Victor asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes and had an overwhelming sense of peace that could have only been from the Lord.
Victor and I had planned to celebrate our 1st anniversary on Saturday, January 11 because our actual dating anniversary fell on a Tuesday and we were both busy with school and work. Victor and I had planned a fun-filled day that started by going to paint pottery. I had a gift card and thought it would be a fun activity for the two of us to do. He pained a sloth ornament and I painted a llama ornament, of course. Afterward, we went to J Alexanders for dinner. That evening, the Tennessee Titans had a playoff game and with Victor being one of the biggest football lovers I know, I decided to give in and go watch the game with him at a bar and grill at the Opryland hotel. About 1 year prior to this, Victor and I went to the Opryland hotel, got gelato and went to the same bar and grill to watch a football game. This night we did pretty much the same thing. As soon as we got to the Opryland hotel we went and got gelato and took it and sat down on a bench in one of the hotel's atrium gardens. While sitting on the bench eating gelato, Victor started to "talk serious". I was SO confused. He started listing off reasons why he loved me and wanted to marry me and the whole time in my head I was like, he is joking, this isn't actually happening but it continued. It did not set in until Victor was searching for the ring box in his sports coat pocket that it hit me he was about to purpose. He then got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife and I said yes, a million times yes. Little did I know he had called two of my friends to meet us at the hotel to take photos for us. I then asked if he was still planning on watching the game and he said oh no no no. He gave up the Tennessee Titans for me! haha It was the sweetest night of my whole life.
