When persistence meets opportunity. Christine and I’s story doesn’t actually start with us. Back in the late 1900s, Christine’s older sister, Kathryn, and I met on the playground at Spring Cypress when I was still just ‘Speedy’. We remained close friends through the years, but it wasn’t until 2018 that I finally met Christine. Kathryn told me that Christine was “off limits” – but I knew immediately Kat had messed up. Jokes on me. For years I kept proposing a date with Christine. She blew off every attempt I made, and not only did she blow it off, but she started joking about it. Regardless, I knew I was inevitably going to get my date with her. After a night of celebrating on a party bus for my brother’s wedding, we spent two weeks together recovering from COVID. Christine mentioned she could use help working on her beat up van, so of course, I’m the guy to help. If you know anything about me – I know nothing about anything automotive… Either way, one thing led to another (or one drink led to another), and I FINALLY convinced Christine to go on a date with me. Within the week we decided to see where things could go, within the year she was living with me, and before I knew it, we were in Thailand at a Cabbages and Condoms Café and I was on one knee. We are so excited to start this new chapter together and can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!
After Jacob and Christine met through family and friends and had their first date at The Rustic in 2020, the pair knew their connection was something that just made sense. They agreed to take it slow, allowing their friendship to develop and transition into a relationship. New Years Eve of 2022, Jacob went out and purchased the ring. In February of 2023, the duo visited Thailand, where Jacob began taking sneaky photos of the ring with Christine unknowingly in the background to make a video for the proposal. Because Jacob knew there was no signal, he sent a final draft of the proposal video to Christine at a local café, Cabbages and Condoms, knowing his phone would not receive the ability to send the video until he turned on his wifi. Wouldn’t you know the shocked expression on his face when he noticed he had 3G mobile data. Seeing Christine's phone light up from his notification, Jacob started the video on his phone and set it on the table to record the moment and its virtue. Upon standing up to get on one knee, Jacob clumsily bumped the table and proceeded to record his tasty coffee for the next 5 minutes. Even with all his dumb luck, she excitedly said, "Yes."
