Direct Flights available Once you land in Rome, you will need to either take a connecting flight to Florence OR go to the Rome Termini Station and take a high speed train to Florence, arriving at the Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station OR rent a car. The distance from Rome to Florence is 162 miles and many high-speed trains make the trip in just 1.5 hours and it costs about $25/person. You can book your train travel at thetrainline.com If you decide to rent a car, there are many companies (Avis, Enterprise, etc), you can book in advanced and pick up at the train station. We did this and it was quite easy. However it was expensive. TIP: Florence has 'no drive zones' in city enter. If your accommodation is within the City Center, inquire about the driving/parking situation. Taxis are very easy to get within the City Center.
Rental Car
When you arrive at the airport or train station in Florence, the easiest transportation you can choose is a taxi. You will find the taxi stand directly outside of the terminals. Taxis are available 24 hours a day at the airport or train station, so even if you arrive late you can always get a taxi. We recommend utilizing taxis during your trip to Italy, as they are prevalent and a cheaper alternative. In addition, there are a lot of strict driving rules in downtown Florence. Alternatively you can pre book transfers using the link below (Click "View" link below). If not available, here is a website to another option: https://4242.it/ If you prefer to call, here are 2 numbers to call to pre-book as well: 1) +390554390 2) +390554242
Rental Car
Care Rental If you are flying directly in and out of Florence, we recommend utilizing taxis over renting a car during your trip. Driving in downtown Florence is rather complicated, as cars are prohibited from driving down certain streets. However, if you are planning on spending time driving the countryside or driving to another city, you can hire a small car for around $140-$200 per day (Click "View" Link below). Hotel
This venue has 11 rooms and is 2 minutes down the road from our wedding venue. Secluded on a hill in the countryside, this property has a pool, tennis court, and serves as a wedding venue as well. In our opinion, there wasn't a ton to do around the venue as its in the hills, so we recommend to stay here if you want to relax in the countryside and be close to the wedding venue!
Hotel
We stayed here during our visit in October and loved it. The location is in the heart of the center, surrounded by cobblestone, statues and tons of restaurants. The rooms are old world Italian gone Lux. There is a downstairs bar as well. Stay here if you want to experience a luxury hotel in the heart of Florence.
Hotel
An old aristocratic residence used to host important international guests. Stay here if you want history inspired architecture and old world designs. It's located on the other city of the Arno, opposite City Center. This side of the Arno has a gorgeous view overlooking all of Florence, especially during sunset. However, you aren't in the heart of the city but can be with a 10 minute taxi across the bridge to the city center. Of note: This hotel can be expensive in high season.
Hotel
Another option, located in Florence city center, is Hotel Calimala. It is in a great location and has a rooftop restaurant. We ate here and the food was good, although, its not traditional Tuscan food; it's Mediterranean.
Hotel
Tornabuoni Suites Collection is located in the center of Florence, surrounded by various design boutiques. Offering some views of the city, these are modern and elegant suites. We have not stayed here, but was recommended and seems like a good value option.
Hotel
Located in the center of Florence, on the river bank, and offers views over the Arno and Ponte Vecchio. Berchielli's rooms have a classic style with antique furniture and historic details. We have not stayed here, but was recommended and seems like a good value option.
