Long story short, we met at work (much to the chagrin of our managers). In 2016 we both commuted from Oakland to foggy San Francisco to work at a cafe inside the Ferry Building. Between serving thousands of tourists, enjoying flower bouquets, and delicious food on the Saturday farmer's market we always found time before and after shifts to hang out as a cafe team (SQUAAAD). After a couple of months we realized that we had so many similar interests (books/films/music; you know, the important stuff ;-) ) We began to get together outside of work to talk creative pursuits - which culminated in a live performance piece we collaborated on and premiered called 'untethered.' We presented this show in September 2017, but by that point we were pretty inseparable.
In 2018 Tim talked Christina into visiting a cat named LJ at Oakland Animal Shelter. He had been in the feral cat room for four months after living on the streets; and our friends at Cattown Oakland said he may have potential as a indoor cat with the right foster family. Christina had never had a pet before and since Tim is a *certified cat person,* he reassured me that LJ would be a medium level foster cat, not too hard and just needed a quiet space and some time. For the first couple of months he was a terrified and shy cat; only coming out to eat and use the litter box (when we were asleep). We’ll never forget the moment that he plopped into Christina's hands and decided he wanted pets and love. At this point we knew our home was going to be his forever home! We took his initial name of LJ and named him Lord Jordi because he’s so regal and stoic! Now we like to call him Lord Jordi Bub-Bub Carter, or some/many variations of this. He now truly feels like he can do anything he sets his mind to and we love that for our little fur-baby. If you have yet to meet him hopefully you will some day.
Between cemetery tours, delicious Creole cuisine, and listening to Jazz second line parades; Tim managed to fit in a surprise proposal while on a family trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. Set in Audubon Park - Tim and Christina spent a quiet morning exploring the park and Tim had found the perfect spot (little did he know that they had closed off that section of the park because they were filming American Horror Story). Since Tim had to pick a spot on the fly, we continued to wander around until we found a gorgeous bridge and that's where he popped the question!
