It was a fall football Saturday and unseasonably cool for Arizona. The stage was set for the high school football state championship at Arizona State University. It was a special day for Devin and Cameron who were both playing in the big game. But naturally, it’s not a game without the pre-game. In this case there was a local restaurant hosting the team celebration, and that is where this love story begins. After an hour or so the crowd was clearing fast from the venue and to no one’s surprise, we were both unmoved by the rush. Fate took over, the room cleared, and that’s when Kamoni offered a drink and a smile. The conversation and laughter was effortless, but eventually it was time to head to the game. The sun had gone down and it was absolutely freezing. In a kind gesture, Kamoni offered to walk back to the car to get a blanket. He must have forgotten he had over 100 stairs to go down and back up. Based on his facial expression upon returning, Tina was sure this may be their last interaction. Thankfully, it was not. The game was lost but something much more important began. From that moment on, it was game over (or some could say…game on?). Since then, we’ve bonded over food, traveling, still lots of football games, and way too many “friendly” competitions in any game we can find. What began as a random and unexpected meeting has become the love of a lifetime. Now, we’re getting married, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this next chapter with all the people who mean the most to us.
