Agua Linda Mexican Restaurant
This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in town! Christy's favorite dish is the chimichanga and Greer loves the fajita nachos!
The State Botanical Garden of Georgia
Our wedding is held here, but it's also a fun place to go for a hike and to take kids! The children's garden is adorable and you can visit their website to see what activities they have going on!
Athens - North Oconee River Greenway
The Greenway is a great walking path in town. It passes a few parks and makes a great stop to bring your dog for a nice walk!
Sandy Creek Nature Center
The nature center has some very nice walking trails and has activities for the kids. It is conveniently located at one end of the Greenway, so you can walk there from some places in town!
Pulaski Heights Barbecue
Our favorite BBQ in town. Pulaski Heights is especially great for folks who have dietary restrictions, as they offer some delicious vegan and gluten-free options! Caitlin, the maid of honor, loves their smoked tofu and Greer and Christy are huge fans of their collard greens.
Bear Hollow Zoo
Very fun place to bring kids! Sometimes, they have birthday parties for the bears :)
Tlaloc
Probably the most authentic Mexican restaurant in town. The waits can be long, but the food is amazing! It's also helpful to have a Spanish-speaker in your group when you go here.
Maepole
Delicious, laid-back southern food. They meet dietary needs really well and offer some really tasty sodas.
Little Italy Pizzeria
Little Italy is an Athens staple. It's cheap, greasy, and really tasty! They offer some really fantastic lunch specials!
Mama's Boy Restaurant
Mama's Boy has SUPER popular brunch, so show up early!
Big City Bread Cafe
Delicious brunch and lunch options and a great bakery! This is the spot we typically bring out-of-towners to!
Hi-Lo Lounge
The best brunch in town (according to us)! Also a great place for drinks and dinner.
The World Famous
Home of the best (and possibly only) poutine in Athens! Their drinks and other food are also notably delicious!
Blue Sky Bar
Athens's best mixed drinks. Try the blueberry drink (we can never remember what it's called), it's ridiculously delicious!
Magnolias of Athens
A great place to get inexpensive drinks. This is not a high-class bar and undergrads tend to be there, so not for those looking for elegance.
Manhattan Cafe
A very relaxed bar with an extensive menu of mixed drinks. Manhattans is a "Townie bar", so grad students, professors, and true locals frequent this place, which means you can have a conversation and hear each other here.
Taco Stand
This place is not fancy nor is it authentic, but their queso is kind of amazing. Taco stand is greasy and 100% a hole in the wall. Christy loves their tilapia burrito, but Greer suggests avoiding their quesadillas (far too greasy). Also, this location is the best in town-the downtown location has bad salsa and the eastside location is all-around bad.
Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers
Like Zaxby's, but better (this is a popular Athens debate-WE think Cane's is better, but everyone has an opinion). Cane's only does chicken fingers, but they do them SO WELL!
Waffle House
This is kind of silly, but we think this Waffle House is the best one. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you avoid the downtown Waffle House, since it can be especially packed and parking can be hard to find. Note: Christy thinks the Catlins should go here, since they'll need a Waffle House visit.
Inoko Express Athens Ga
The best quick hibachi in Athens. They do unlimited soup, which is Christy's favorite thing here. It's also super affordable and very tasty!
Boar's Head Lounge
A very relaxed bar with a popcorn machine! Greer used to do "professional development" here on Thursdays!
University of Georgia
Our collective alma-mater! UGA has a beautiful north campus to walk around and an art museum on east campus. During the summer, campus is generally pretty empty, so it can be a good place to go to walk or eat a picnic.
