Our Story

Christina and Elias shrug their shoulders and smile when people ask how they met, and they say, "It's not really that romantic. We met online." And while that is the quickest way to tell it, there is more to the story, as there always is. Elias had been on the app for a while, and had dated some different girls. None of them quite clicked. Christina had tried online dating on and off since college, and after being in Georgia only three and a half months, decided to give it a whirl again in early November. Despite her awkward beginning to their online conversation, they hit it off right away. He swiped right because she spoke Spanish, put Jesus on her profile, and was cute. She decided to swipe right because he talked about Jesus on his profile, spoke Spanish, and had a cute dog - and a cute smile. She was asked out by a couple of different guys the very first weekend she was on the app, and even went on a first date with one other guy in the span of the same week when she and Elias went out for their first date. The other guy was nice: loved Jesus, played piano, and was involved in his church; but it wasn’t too long before it was clear that there was something there with Elias that wasn’t there with the other guy. She and Elias were constantly texting back and forth and talking on the phone for hours at a time in the evenings. No length of time ever seemed long enough when they were together. As an example, their second date lasted about eight hours! Or was it nine? They dated for about 11 months before Elias proposed. Their conversations were just what you want in a relationship - a mix of goofy, heartfelt, mundane, and serious. They found that they could have tough conversations full of grace, patience, and forgiveness. And they discovered that when their viewpoints differed, even on important things, hearing the other’s perspective strengthened their understanding. The only reason Elias waited 11 months before he proposed was mostly because he was waiting to be sure that Christina was ready. Little did Christina know, he actually bought the ring about three months earlier soon after meeting her family. He was positive he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life. He proposed on a picture-perfect October day in the mountains of Chattanooga, Tennessee, while they were hiking. On the way to Chattanooga that day, Christina had been dreaming out loud (or, as he puts it, babbling) about their future, and Elias wondered if she suspected that he planned to propose that day. However, Christina was completely taken by surprise. She, of course, said yes. He had waited just the right amount of time for her to be ready. Even though they met online, it turns out they have a pretty romantic story after all.
