At Temple University, Christina went to a party at the house where Cody was living with college friends. Cody struck up a conversation with her about an ongoing DIY project to convert a spare bedroom into a bar area. True to form, Christina spontaneously offered to assist. They spent the rest of the night staining the bar top. As with all of Christina's endeavors, her "hands-on" approach was a bit messy, leaving her arms ended up covered in stain. Cody realized Christina was the one while holding her hands to help wash off the stain.
Our first date was spent ice skating at the RiverRink at Penn’s Landing during Christmastime. Surrounded by twinkling lights and festive music, we spent the evening zooming around the rink (with varying levels of grace), laughing, and trying not to fall. By the end of the night, we were cozying up by the fire, talking and sharing that first spark that made everything feel right. It was the perfect beginning to our story—and a memory we’ll always hold close.
Our first trip was a camping adventure in May... and it poured the entire night. We fought the rain to set up our tent, stayed optimistic through soggy shoes and damp firewood, and kept our spirits high—until about 3 a.m., when the cold finally got to us. Christina turned to Cody in the pitch-dark tent and whispered, “Cody, this sucks.” Despite the weather, it marked the beginning of our shared love for the outdoors. That rainy weekend taught us how to find comfort in each other when things don’t go as planned—something that’s carried us through every adventure since. And honestly, the rain should’ve been no surprise. On Christina's side of the family, it’s practically tradition—it always rains at the family camping trips.
Our journey as pet parents began unexpectedly after a moment that stuck with us—a turtle crossing the road on our way back from the beach. We weren’t able to rescue the turtle, but the memory lingered. A few weeks later, Cody spontaneously took us to the pet store, originally intending to find a turtle… but fate had other plans. That’s when we met Nibbler, a fluffy little guinea pig with a big personality. We instantly fell in love. Nibbler came home with us, lived with us through college, and was part of our first apartment together. He was playful, vocal, and always “popcorning”—a happy little jump that still makes us smile when we think about it. Though Nibbler has since passed, he brought us so much joy and taught us a lot about love, responsibility, and the happiness found in everyday moments. We’ll always treasure our memories with him.
Cody and Christina went to Longwood Gardens on one of their first dates. Over the next few years, Cody came to realize the full extent of Christina's love for plants. He knew Longwood Gardens would be the perfect place to propose. When the time came, he took her to a spot overlooking the fountains and got down on one knee to pop the question. Spoiler alert - she said yes!
