Christina and I met in a conference room at work. Christina was a well-paid account manager, while I was a lowly editor who was living with his parents. I offered to help her with a tough client of hers, and after our first meeting, she sent me a message saying not to come to her meetings anymore. It’s hard to tell the difference between flirting and rudeness over chat, but I decided to play along. We talked regularly after that, mostly over chat messages. That was until the company Christmas party, where we exchanged numbers. A few days before Christmas, I decided to go into the office instead of working from home. I have no idea why I did this - why would I commute an hour and a half each way when it wasn’t required? - but it turned out to be one of the most important decisions I’ve ever made. Christina was one of the few people in the office that day. She asked if I’d like to hang out. We spent the whole night laughing, watching The Office, and telling stories. After that, we texted all through the holidays and were inseparable. A few weeks went by and Christina grumpily pointed out that I still hadn’t asked her to be my girlfriend. “OK. Do you want to be my girlfriend?” I asked. “Yes,” she said. I like to think it was just my rugged good looks, warmth, and charm that helped things move so fast, but it's more likely that we were just meant to be.
