Growing up, in what was once, the small town of Golden, CO; we were bound to meet. Sure enough we did at the young age of 11 and it was not exactly love at first site. Sean liked to, how do you say it, bug people and Christie was easily bugged. Eventually, Sean bugged his way into Christie's heart at age 16. Although the young relationship went on the back burner during the college years, we remained good friends throughout college and into our 20s. We both spent the years wandering, discovering ourselves, and "growing up". It wasn't until Christie moved back to Golden, that we gave our relationship a second chance. Over the years some things changed, but the love (and the bugging!) remained the same. And wouldn't you know it, only one house, three dogs, and six years later Sean finally got down on one knee.
After three, lets call them, fake proposals and Christie giving up hope it would ever come; Sean surprised everyone by proposing in December 2018. For months, we had been planning to spend the week of Christmas in Breckenridge for some skiing, snowshoeing, and alone time (with Auggie the Doggie). The morning we were set to leave, Christie woke up to a trail of roses and pictures full of wonderful memories. The roses led her to an egg sandwich (Sean's signature dish), a bottle of champagne, two empty glasses, and one empty picture frame. As Christie's eyes watered anticipating a question with a ring, Sean (with a smile on his face) explained "For Christmas this year, I wanted to remind you of all the wonderful memories we have had. And the blank frame is a placeholder for all the memories yet to come." We toasted our mimosas, ate our sandwiches, packed the car and left for Breckenridge. Yep- NO RING! We knew we didn't want to ski the day we drove up, so we had planned a snowshoeing day with Auggie. Sean picked a gorgeous lake hike in Silverthorne called Willow Lakes. It was perfect. Very few people snowshoeing, beautiful scenery, and wonderful company. When we stopped for lunch, Sean pulled out a blanket and the empty picture frame. Christie turned around to see Sean down on one knee with a small box in hand. To Christie's surprise this was a real proposal and she of course said yes. Auggie witnessed the whole thing. Sean suggested keeping the engagement quiet for the remainder of the week, but Christie could only last an hour before calling friends and family with the exciting news.
