The Proposal

How we Met

(Christie's version)

When I started teaching 1st grade at an elementary school in Rockwall, two of my teammates kept mentioning this guy named JB Potts and how we would be perfect together. They had both taught him years earlier in elementary & middle school, and their families had stayed connected over the years. After hearing about this JB Potts for an entire year, they finally took matters into their own hands and planned a game night which was very obviously designed to introduce us. Game night was...awkward. We barely talked, hardly made eye contact, and could definitely feel everyone watching to see if sparks would fly. They didn’t. At least, not yet. A few days later, JB sent a message asking if I wanted to meet for coffee after work. I said yes. We met at Fable & Fire in downtown Rockwall and ended up talking for 4 hours straight, and everything changed from that moment on. We’ve been inseparable ever since and cannot wait to start this new journey and we hope you can join us to celebrate.

The Proposal

The day before the proposal, my friends invited me to get my nails done (something that immediately made my heart start racing). From that moment on, I had a feeling something big was coming, and I couldn’t stop talking about it with my girlfriends. After the nail salon, we went to dinner, and while we were sitting at the table, my friends handed me an envelope. Inside was a handwritten note from JB. It was sweet, thoughtful, and undeniable confirmation that a proposal was coming soon. After dinner, we all went back to my apartment and spent the rest of the night together. I didn’t want it to end, knowing sleep would be impossible with so much excitement and anticipation. The next morning, my oldest sister, Lillie picked me up for brunch. To my surprise, when I got to the car, my other sister from Colorado was sitting inside as well. It was a complete surprise and made the day feel even more special. After brunch, we returned to my apartment, where Lillie pulled out yet another handwritten note from JB, once again confirming what my heart already knew. Later that afternoon, my sisters drove me to a “secret location.” I knew this was it. We arrived at the Dallas Arboretum and immediately saw JB upon arriving. He met me at the car and opened the door. We walked together through the Arboretum, talking about our relationship and everything that had brought us to this very moment. We stopped beneath the most beautiful crape myrtle trees, which at that point of the season, had created a stunning floral canopy tunnel. JB took my hands and although I don’t remember exactly what he said, I do know it was absolutely perfect. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes. Immediately after, I look to my left and see both of our families racing toward us. Tears of happiness filled my eyes. It was a moment I’ll cherish forever. He couldn’t have planned it any better.

The Engagement Party

After the proposal, we spent some time wandering around the Arboretum, still riding the high of the moment. Once we got back in his truck, he dropped the words that made my heart race, “We have one more stop.” I immediately knew what was coming. I was about to see all our favorite people in one place. Naturally, we stopped for a Diet Coke to calm my nerves (spoiler: it did absolutely nothing). When we arrived, we were greeted by cheers and hugs from our family and friends. And just when I thought it couldn’t get better, I spotted the most unexpected guest: my dog, Millie. He had secretly arranged for our friends to “kidnap” her from my apartment so she could be there too. Best surprise. Best people. Best night ever.
