Christian and Melanie first met at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Christian's groomsman's, James' room in early September 2019. Melanie had heard a lot about Christian over summer and her first words to him were, "Oh you're DeLuca!?" Christian and Melanie hung out as friends from the day they met until Halloween 2019. Melanie invited Christian and his friends to a Halloween party at her house. She admits that she really just wanted him to come. At the party, Christian asked her to teach him how to dance. A few days later, on November 4th they shared their first kiss and saw each other just about every day. Eventually, on December 21, Christian asked Melanie to be his girlfriend in front of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center. Christian knew he wanted to propose after a Good Friday mass he attended alone while Melanie was on vacation. He felt the Holy Spirit at work, bringing him to the conclusion that he doesn't want to waste anymore time. And so the planning begun. Christian narrowed down that he would either propose in June shortly after his birthday or July on their family vacation. He eventually settled on June 14th as the date and began coordinating with Melanie's mother, Patricia, and sister, Sharon. Under the guise of taking pictures for Sharon's Pinning Ceremony, Christian proposed to Melanie atop Garrett Mountain in Clifton. The engagement was not without its trials. It rained all day and the initial location where Christian wanted to propose was closed. Nevertheless, they found a way as they always had. They then celebrated the rest of the evening with their loved ones.
