We recommend that international travelers enter the country via Lima's Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM). Once in Peru, guests will need to make a local connection to Cusco's Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ), the closest airport to the Sacred Valley. Cusco is at an altitude of 11,000 feet, so take it easy upon arrival! See note below about how to acclimate. Our wedding venue in the Sacred Valley is at a lower elevation (9,400 feet) and a 90 minute drive from Cusco (CUZ). We recommend booking a private transfer for the journey, or taking an airport shuttle. We do not recommend renting a car and driving yourself, as the Cusco region can be difficult to navigate. In larger towns and more touristy areas of the Sacred Valley, such as Urubamba and Ollantaytambo, you can easily find licensed taxis. These towns have designated taxi stands, and you can also flag down taxis on the street.
Please see our Accommodations page for our host hotel and other recommended hotels in the area.
If your child is a dog named Samson, yes. Otherwise, no. JUST KIDDING! Of course your little ones are welcome, but please coordinate with us in advance if you plan on bringing them.
The Sacred Valley is situated at an elevation lower than Cusco, but it's still at a significant altitude so try to arrive a couple of days in advance to acclimate. Altitude sickness can affect individuals differently so be aware of the symptoms, which can include headache, dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath. Tips to help you prevent and manage altitude sickness: 1. Acclimatize gradually by taking it easy in the beginning; 2. Stay hydrated 3. Drink coca tea (offered at many restaurants and hotels) 4. Eat Light Meals 5. Ensure you get a good night's sleep as fatigue can exacerbate symptoms of altitude sickness.
August is considered the dry season in the Sacred Valley. During the day, you can expect daytime temperatures to range from 60°F to 70°F (15°C to 21°C), although it can be warmer during the peak of the day. The evenings and nights can be cooler, with temperatures dropping to around 35°F to 45°F (2°C to 7°C). It's advisable to layer your clothing to accommodate these fluctuations. Rainfall is minimal, and you can generally expect clear skies and sunny weather.
