FAQs

As this is a non-traditional event, we highly encourage you to read through all FAQs!
Question

What type of event is this, and are there other activities planned?

Answer

We’ll be getting married at the courthouse with immediate family, and then celebrating with ya'll at our "reception". The party is the main/only scheduled event of the weekend—think of it as one big celebration rather than a traditional wedding reception.

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

No--the venue is a 21+ bar.

Question

When and where is the event, and how do I get there?

Answer

The party is at Cleo’s Bar, 1935 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622, 7-10PM on Saturday, May 30th 2026. Rideshares (Uber/Lyft) are the most convenient option, there will be VERY limited parking in the area (please see Travel tab for more detail).

Question

Do I need to RSVP?

Answer

We kindly ask for you to RSVP at your earliest convenience so we can plan accordingly. Deadline to RSVP will be sent on your invitation!

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Think of it like a night out at your favorite bar—keep it casual or dress up a bit if you'd like. Whatever feels like you is perfect (AKA the groom will be in a hat).

Question

Will it be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The bar has both indoor and outdoor space, as long as Chicago weather cooperates!

Question

What’s the plan for food and drinks?

Answer

We’ll have plenty of drinks (open bar) and heavy appetizers/desserts throughout the night. If you’d like a full dinner beforehand, there are lots of great restaurants within walking distance—we’re happy to share recommendations on the Chicago Faves tab.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We don't have a formal hotel block, but we have suggested hotels (with discount codes) and a list of Airbnb's. Wherever you feel most comfortable staying in the city, there are options! We do suggest booking ASAP as options get more expensive/limited closer to the event.

Question

What should I do in Chicago?

Answer

We love Chicago, and have a million suggestions--please see Chicago Faves tab for detailed list. For getting around, rideshare apps like Uber or Lyft make things easy, and Chicago has plenty of trains/busses.

Question

Who should I contact if I have questions?

Answer

Feel free to reach out to us directly—we’re happy to help! Kristen: (440)226-0685 and email: NovotneyKristen@gmail.com and Christian: (773)329-5664 and cgrant033@gmail.com

Question

Can I bring a gift?

Answer

While we appreciate the generosity, the nature of the event makes physical gifts difficult to transport. We have a Newlywed Fund set up under our registry if you wish to contribute.
